Non-desire
What is desired is non-desire. It is learning to unlearn. This reminds us of who we have always been. Thus, care for nothing but the Tao to care for all things. – Lao Tzu
Comment: Taoist ideas tend to be obscure and expressive of multiple meanings. The notion of non-desire is probably better expressed as less-desire since to actually desire non-desire is a self-canceling contradiction.
But to reduce desire by being aware of the consequences of the mindless pursuit of desires is…..desirable. 🙂
Take a few moments to think about what you want in the next few minutes. Simply adding a momentary pause for thought before acting on a desire can be life-changing.
The joy of being present in the moment tends to reduce my desires and just appreciate right now. As a youth I was always rushing to do the next thing, to be part of the action. Now I realize how many of the nuances, flavors, joy and color in each moment were lost because of my focus on the next thing. Pausing and being present every minute has lessened many of desires and made me happier and thankful.
Agreed. It’s also interesting to notice that even being “part of the action” happens in the present moment. There’s no choice but to be in the present. There is a choice to notice this.
