Among my favourite songs from my…ahem…younger days is “Roundabout” by Yes. I was not a huge fan of the band although I appreciated the complexity of their composing and performances. I still do. For reasons that have eluded art aficionados forever, personal aesthetic taste remains a mystery. I love classical music, jazz, prog rock, etc. in general. But there was something about the overall sound of Yes that left me cold.
Except for this song. Roundabout has that unique blend of being catchy and complex at the same time. It has one of the most identifiable guitar introductions in progressive rock and its main sections flow seemingly inevitably from that beginning.
This video is utterly brilliant in both its idea and realization. Many of you will recognize the scenes used for this and, depending on your age, will recall the context in which they originally appeared. I can only imagine the hours it took to assemble and edit this video.
The result? See and hear for yourself!
