I have to say this. There are some really stupid and lazy people out there. I recently encountered a glaring example of this and had to share it so it doesn’t fester in my psyche.
I was participating in a forum and noticed it was getting spammed with advertising that had nothing to do with the subject. In addition, the same person was posting these ads for a variety of products, over and over. So I clicked on the “report to admin” button in the assumption that the owner of the forum would remove this offensive troll right away. Nothing happened.
A week or so later, when I saw the same problem continuing, I again reported it to the admin. Again, there was no response and no action taken. The ads kept appearing and now there were even more. I was operating under the assumption that the owner of the forum would want these removed once s/he was aware of them. They really cluttered up the page and made the genuine content harder to read.
The next step was to contact the admin directly, so I looked him/her up and sent a private message. By the way, I still have no idea of the real identity of this person or persons or the gender. Identity on Facebook is always suspect. (just like me :)) But I digress.
After no less than 3 emails I finally got a response from him/her. Are you ready? It was a single sentence.”I don’t know how to do that.” That was it. No further explanation and no action taken. The ads kept appearing in increasing frequency.
I happen to know that deleting someone from a FB forum is the simplest task imaginable. If the forum owner was able to add people (which he/she did) then removing them is simple and obvious. It seemed like sheer laziness on the part of the admin to just do nothing. Not even find out how to remove someone by clicking on a help link.
I concluded that this person was not the sharpest tool in the shed and was too lazy to bother looking any further. It was an example of the effects of a lack of intelligence and effort and I find myself wondering how many other people are out there, running forums, companies, governments, etc. Hmm……..
